Yo-wah Ngambilli
(Hello All)
I am Nathaniel Chapman, a proud Goenpul/Yagera man from North Stradbroke Island (Quandamooka country) and Brisbane City (Megandiin) Yagera country, with ancestral ties to the ‘Wambia’ Tribe in the Northern Territory and Waka Waka People west of the
Sunshine Coast My artistic journey is rooted in the traditions passed down
through my father and great uncles, who have shaped our artistic bloodline.
As a young Indigenous man, I was fortunate to travel to several countries, including Japan, China, Korea, and Germany, alongside my Uncle Eddie Ruska (director of
Nunukul Yagera dancers) and other family members showcasing our collective expression of culture through song and dance. My skin name, ‘BILLEN,’ meaning
"the Parrot," embodies my colorful and vibrant approach to creativity.
Currently, as a resident artist with Yilay & Blaklash and formerly Yarn, I've embraced various artistic avenues. My expertise spans across mural painting, custom digital artworks, and tangible creations like sports apparel, clothing, homewares, animations, and icons. This wide-ranging style allows me to connect with diverse audiences.
My motivation for creating art stems from a desire to share my culture with the broader community and always trying new ways to elevate my creativity as an artist. Through
storytelling embedded in my art, language, and cultural expressions I integrate language and cultural expressions handed down from my elders.
